As Victoria advances its energy transition, battery energy storage systems are seen as a smarter and more economical option for grid upgrades. The deployment of large-scale battery energy storage systems is considered in the plan to upgrade the transmission line between Queensland and New South Wales to support the integration of renewable energy and grid stability. This strategy may provide a reference for Victoria to promote the modernization of residential lighting and other household energy systems to improve energy efficiency and reliability. However, the high investment cost of battery energy storage systems remains a major obstacle to promotion, and the government and industry need to work together to explore viable business models and incentives.
